diamond Care

Storing your diamond when you are not wearing them is important. Diamond can scratch and harm other stones you have if you store them loosely with other

Gemstones. It is best to either keep them separate altogether or store them in their original box or wrapped in tissue paper.

When you want to clean your diamond, firstly check the paperwork and / or Warranty Agreement from the jeweler as they may provide a professional cleaning service as part of your diamond purchase. If this isn’t included, there are many different cleaning processes you can employ yourself, which will keep your diamond sparkling brilliantly as the day it was bought.

Possibly the most popular and common form of cleaning your diamond is to use a mild detergent or bathroom cleaner bath. The detergent or cleaner can be simply one you have sitting in your cupboard. You simply fill a bowl with warm water together with the detergent or cleaner. Then take an old toothbrush and brush away the dirt in the soapy water. Once finished you need to rinse the diamond under warm clean water. I would recommend putting the plug in the sink if rinsing under a tap for obvious reasons! Another important tip is not to use anything with chlorine bleach in it to clean any of your jewelry, not just your Diamonds. The bleach is far too severe
and abrasive.

Another simply method is the cold water soak. Simply fill a bowl, half cold water, half household ammonia and place your diamond into the solution and allow to soak for at least 30 minutes. Remove it from the solution and gently tap the diamond with your fingers to remove any excess solution. You can give it a quick rinse in the solution again if necessary, the simply lay out on a piece of absorbent kitchen towel or tissue paper to dry out.

A slightly more high-tech method of cleaning would be to purchase an ultrasonic cleaning machine. It simply works by placing your half water half cleaning solution into a little reservoir and then placing in your diamond. Switching the machine on cleans the diamond by using a high-speed motion.

There are many different cleaners readily available on the market. Carefully follow the instructions for, most likely, dipping your diamond into the cleaner. You will probably find that you will have to let the diamond dry completely before up touch and wear it again. So be careful and read the instructions properly, otherwise you could end up with all sorts of oily deposits from your “clean” fingers back on the diamond.
